While we maintain the unity of the human species, we at the same time repel the depressing assumption of superior and inferior races of men. There are nations more susceptible of cultivation, more highly civilized, more ennobled by mental cultivation than others–but none in themselves nobler than others.

Alexander Von Humboldt
About This Quote

At the time that Darwin talked about the power of "cultivation," he correctly understood how important education was in cultivating our humanity. He was not suggesting that one race is better than another, but rather that all the races of men are equal when considering their potential for humanity. The ability to see beyond our own differences is one of the most beautiful things we can do in life in offering us a way to embrace all in humanity in spite of our differences.
